Murals
Vintage Saluki at Hangar 9
A large modified vintage SIU Saluki logo painted at Hangar 9's beer garden. Privately commissioned and Phase 1 completed October 2026.

El Cielo de Jaguar
Privately commissioned mural, located in El Paisano. An afterlife passage way, high above the heavens, where both a young and elder version of Zapata and Frida move through the portals.

Fernando Fernandez - Viva Mexico
Privately Commissioned mural, located in El Paisano of Carbondale, IL. A catrina style portrait of a young Mexican singer, Fernando Fernandez.

Saluki Country at Moe's Building
Public commissioned mural to support and to celebrate SIU and to foster school spirit in Carbondale. The design was provided to me and I executed the physical application of stenciling and spray painting on this challenging coarse wall surface.

Hind's Creek in Alto Pass
Private commissioned mural for a rental vacation home in Alto Pass. This is the one time I could have used a VR headset to trace the design, instead of using a grid and corresponding plot points.

Arc of Existence
Pro-bono mural for SIU's School of Biological Science's faculty and student lounge. The design of this mural is based on a popular Tree of Life diagram that serves as a graphical timeline of various periods in which species evolved and became extinct. The vignettes of individual painted species represent various SIU's faculty research interests. Student volunteers assisted in the tracing and the painting of the design.

SIU Intersection
Public commissioned mural located at the intersection of Mill St and South Illinois Ave. in Carbondale, IL. Various academic icons surround the new SIU saluki mascot - forestry, biology, architecture and etc. A lane of traffic was closed in order to project the design for tracing purposes. This was the second large scale mural I completed at the request of Chancellor Lane and city business leaders.

Shawnee Labyrinth
A public commissioned mural across the historic geodisc dome/labyrinth park across SIU's campus. The imagery in the mural includes a reference to the labyrinth park across the street, and various nocturnal lifeforms- a luna moth, armadillos, coyote, deer, poosum, and raccoon.

Rainbows and Newborns
A small private commissioned mural located in the maternal wing in SIH Memorial Hospital. The client provided an idea and sketch of a hot air balloon and clouds to incorporate in the final design. The greatest challenge was scheduling painting sessions in the evening and staying out of the way of the nursing staff. If you look closely, you will see the cloud design makes a cameo appearance in the Cielo de Jaguar mural.

Huitzilin
A small private commissioned mural located in El Paisano in Carbondale, IL. While I was painting the Saluki Country mural at Walt's, the owner of El Paisano inquired and insisted that I should paint some Mexican-themed designs in his establishment.
I was allowed more creative freedom to design imagery that incorporates historical iconography and traditional associations unique to Mexican culture. Using bright and bold colors was a welcoming opportunity, along with painting a design unbounded by a standard rectangular format.
Huitzilin means hummingbird in the Nahuatl langauge of Mexico. The hummingbird is understood as a messenger from the afterlife or the form of deceased love visiting the living.

Pancho Villa - Jaguar
A small private commissioned mural located in El Paisano in Carbondale, IL. After completing the Quetzacoatl - Frida mural, I was asked to paint a mural devoted to Pancho Villa, another Mexican revolutionary hero.
The chimalli design in the background is a reference to the jaguar warriors of ancient Aztec/Mesheeka society. If you are a Han Solo Star Wars fan, you might notice the similar icon pose seen in many Harrison Ford movie posters. Above the chimalli is a
sign in the iconic shape of a macuahuitl, a traditional sword used by jaguar warriors.

Nocturne
A small private commissioned mural that I partially painted live in front of an audience of 12,000 people during the 2024 Eclipse in Carbondale, IL.
I agreed to paint a 10 ft x 10ft mural on a football field as part of the cosmic spectacle that passed through the city of Carbondale for the second time in seven years. Given the complexity of the design, I was allowed to paint half of the mural three nights prior the main event.
A giant spring peeper tree frog is surrounded by a mystical triangular form with cicadas and smaller spring peeper frog forms. For those who are asking, "why a spring peeper frog?", the answer is that this frog has a distinguishable X marking on its back ( a nod to the double pathway of the eclipse in Carbondale) and because in during my lakeside experience at the 2017, these nocturnal amphibians are very loud. Also frogs represent the concept of transfiguration given how they morph from tadpole to frog. In 2024, there was an increase migratory season of cicadas, as well as hummingbirds, which is seen with watermelon-themed colors in its wings.

Bienvenidos Carbondale at Dona Luna
Public grant funded mural by ArtSpace Southern Illinois and the City of Carbondale. The Chicano theme incorporates a loose style of papel picado look that incorporates imagery associated with SIU's saluki mascot, local wildlife (deer), the growing Chicano community, local agriculture, and Carbondale's connection to the train route that passes by this mural. The addition of butterflies is associated with the migratory journey of both the insect and migrant farmworkers who contribute to the local economy and workforce.

Frida Kahlo Catrina
Privately Commissioned mural, located in El Paisano of Carbondale, IL. A catrina style portrait of a young Frida Kahlo.

Protecting the Hatchling
Privately Commissioned mural, located on the read entrance door of ArtSpace on the Strip in Carbondale. Inspired by parenthood, specifically mothers and fathers in conflict zones who tirelessly provide sustenance and security for their children.

El Chavo del Ocho
Private commissioned mural to honor and to celebrate El Chavo del Ocho, a highly respected character in Mexican television comedy.

Covid Memorial at SIU's Student Health Center
Private commissioned mural for SIU's Student Health Center. Student volunteers learned the challenges associated with design layout and the physicality involved with ladders. The lighting sconce dictated the placement of the Caduceus with adjustments being made to the slight curvature of the exterior wall.

Owl Eclipse
Public commissioned mural located on the west facing wall of 607 S. Illinois Ave in Carbondale. Owl is design the represents the legacy of Buckminster Fuller's legacy at SIU/Carbondale and a quiet nod to the deer wildlife and the dual eclipse that passed through Carbondale in 2017 and 2024. The owl serves as a symbol of wisdom, education, foresight and guardianship, all values that 21st century Carbondale strives to up hold.

Fox Swamp in Marion, IL
A probono mural located on the north facing wall of Union Street Arts. This mural was an SIU class project which involved group ideation and research sessions, along with months long painting schedules. The mayor of Marion, the director of the Marion Cultural Civic Center, and Luke O'Neill ( a former photo student) helped support and finance the production of this mural, which utilizes animal wildlife imagery to represent parts of Marion's history- it's prohibition era, early period of native american settlements, migratory bird presence and a nod to Francis Marion, an early American Revolutionary soldier, nicknamed "Swamp Fox".

Saluki Compass
A public commissioned mural along westbound HWY13 in Carbondale, IL. This is the second large mural that I completed for the city and SIU officials. The design was loosely inspired by a mandala/compass wheel that incorporates vintage Saluki paw print icons, sun/moon and peak/valley symbology.

Saluki Country
A small pro bono mural located on the south wall of Walt's Ice Cream business on the Strip in Carbondale, IL. SIU officials and business leaders requested a mural with a pharoah's headdress and the tagline "Saluki Country". Normally, I was restricted to maroon, grey, black and white for SIU murals, but for this one I was granted permission to incorporate a splash of blue and yellow since Walt's iconic ice cream signage contains blue and yellow. The symbol in the pharoah's headdress includes the Shen ring, which symbolizes endless protection. I'd like to believe that anyone who makes a selfie in this mural is granted endless protection.
If you look closely and compare these dogs with the dogs in Cielo de Jaguar and Bienvendidos, you will see some similiarities.

Quetzacoatl Frida
A small private commissioned mural located in El Paisano in Carbondale, IL. After completing the Huitzilin mural, I was asked to paint a mural of Frida Kahlo.
I convinced the owner to allow me to incorporate the use of ancient iconography in the background - the quetzacoatl (feathered serpent) and the chimalli shield, along with stylizing Frida Kahlo. A historic portrait of a young Frida was used as a reference, the one in which she is wearing the mesheeka-designed ear rings.
If you are Princess Leia Star Wars fan, you may see a shared semblance in the white robe and the obvious double hair buns, a hairstyle worn by Mexican revolutionaries and Hopi native americans in the southwest. The colors and presence of a watermelon is a symbol associated with resistance, something that Frida embodied.

Catinflas - Coyote
A small private commissioned mural located in El Paisano in Carbondale, IL. After completing the Quetzacoatl - Frida mural, I was asked to paint a mural devoted to celebrated movie and tv celebrity Catinflas.
As a comic,/trickster it seemed appropriate to incorporate mesheeka-style iconography of the coyote - coyotl. I was provided with an iconic photo of Catinflas smoking a small cigarette/joint in a bar. I took some creative liberties and modified the wardrobe so that I could slyly reference another Star Wars rebel fighter- the smooth talking and stylish character of Lando Calrissian.

Cheers
A small private commissioned mural that I did as a favor for new small business.
This was the most challenging mural, not because of scale or size, but because the creative direction changed several times. I was asked if I could recreate something that already exists. I convinced the client that the style and color scheme needs to match the existing artwork in his establishment, otherwise it would visually clash. A satisfactory compromise was achieved.
